How we classify

A script reads each jam's rules page and matches its AI wording against five buckets. The quote on each card is the exact sentence the label came from, with the date we checked it. Low-confidence calls are marked. When in doubt, ask the jam's hosts.

⛔ AI bannedThe rules forbid generative AI. Some bans cover only art and audio; we note when they do.
✅ AI allowedThe rules say AI tools may be used.
📝 Allowed if disclosedAI is fine, but you must say what you used.
🤖 AI required / AI-themedThe jam is about AI (the title or rules say so), or the rules require AI tools.
❔ UnclearThe page doesn't mention AI or is ambiguous. Silence is not a yes.

FAQ: AI in game jams

Is AI allowed in game jams?

It depends on the jam. Of the 409 game jams JamRadar tracks right now, 204 (50%) ban generative AI. 74 of those bans cover only art, audio or writing, and some still allow AI help with code. 76 (19%) allow or require AI. 129 (32%) don't say clearly. Silence is not permission, so ask the hosts. Always read the jam's own rules before you build.

Which game jams allow AI?

76 of the jams we track allow AI, allow it with disclosure, or are built around AI tools. The biggest ones open or coming up right now:

Do I need to disclose AI use in a game jam?

Often, yes. 38 jams we track allow AI only if you disclose it, usually on your game page, by saying what was AI-made (art, code, sound, text). Even when a jam doesn't require it, disclosing is good practice and avoids disputes during voting. If a jam bans AI, disclosure doesn't make AI use OK.
